The Virtual Externship program allows educators to learn through a virtual experience using the Nepris platform.  Participants will learn about trends, skill requirements, and opportunities in business and industry in the region, as well as how virtual externships can work for both educators and students.

General --

Labor Market Questions --

  1. Do you see the local labor markets’ need for new workers in your field increasing, decreasing or remaining steady?
  2. How might this labor market change in the next five years?
  3. What new skills are required of entry-level employees?
  4. What skills are recommended for workers in the field who wish to advance?
  5. What, if any, industry certifications do you consider desirable for a prospective

Human Resource Questions -- 

  1. What job classifications do you expect to have the greatest demand within the next five years?
  2. What level of education, training, skills, or experience does an applicant need for an entry-level position?
  3. What are some of the core abilities and skills you look for in a new hire for entry-level positions?
  4. What should I be teaching in my classroom to prepare student for employment in a company like this? 

Employee/Trainee Questions --

  1. Please describe your typical workday OR What are your main responsibilities?
  2. How long have you been with the company?
  3. What level of education or training is needed for your position?
  4. What academic and technical skills are required for your position?
  5. What should I be teaching in my classroom to prepare students for employment in a company like this?

Expected Outcomes

Through this initiative academic-subject and CTE middle and high school teachers across the state will have access to learning about the standard workplace practices of employers in high-demand industries across Louisiana. 

This exposure to current industry practices - both in terms of workplace behaviors and up-to-date processes and technologies - will help teachers make their course materials more relevant to the life opportunities and challenges all their students will face after they graduate from high school.
